I just stumbled upon a texture generator, that does animated textures, and regular tiles, and is true freeware. Called 'reptile'. It is widely available. I think I'd seen it before, but was not for some reason drawn to it, but now that I have it, I must say it is quite good. You have to get a registration key after downloading it, but I only left my first name and email adress on the registration form, and it was accepted. really neat little program.

The textures that it creates can mke some very interesting bumpmaps.
Has been one of my favorites for years.

Yeah, I also noticed that they are perfect for bump maps,...I made a couple of really freaked out animated ones, and the effect was WOW very cool. I love this thing!

I never noticed that feature !!! You can save the animated texture as a series of bmp files or as an avi !!!
Animated bumpmaps could add some interesting liquid effects.
Hmmmm...
Map an animated texture on a plane parented to a subdivided
plane, with particle effects...
or one of these evolving textures on metaballs.
I don't know how I missed that feature all along.

This phenomenon seems to be quite common among Blenderheads. :D

I leave alot of meaningless posts, which is 50% of my secret to success, but a few of those are actually answering noob questions in 'general'. ;)
