At the beginning of most movies/shorts/animations/whatevers there is a brief logo of the creator. The contest for we blender users is to come up with a 15 second short personal logo.

Rules:

No longer than 15 seconds
No external renderers (sorry...)
Resolution: 360x288 aspect ratio of 54:51
File: 3.5 Megs or less, Divx (It matters not what version...)
Sound: Optional.
Logo: Must be appropriate, c'mon folks- keep your minds out of the gutter.
Submit to: I don't know. If we can find hosting, good. Otherwise, just post it somewhere and post the URL to this thread.

Due: SUNDAY, 13 APRIL 2003 at 8.00 GMT -5

Wait a minute... 360x288? Where the hell did that number come from?

I think he mean x280

anyway I'm in..I'll make something soon ;)

for the "mythologyX" logo ;)

Magic number. Don't worry - just comply. And it is 288- read. The numbers are correct.

I think if I'm going to make a logo I should at least be allowed to make it the resolution I want it. I've never used 360x288 in the past and I don't know of any reason why I would use it in the near future, so it would be very inconvenient if I wanted to use this logo I make but it was the wrong size. I don't see why it's so important to have it at 360x288. If you're going to force us to use it at least explain why.

Well the resolution is half PAL (720x576)/2 so i think it's a good number.
Good contest to everyone!

Here's my entry:

The framerates a little high, but there's no rule saying PAL framerate, so I'm good on time :D .
BTW, thanks for the tip, el sup. I didn't have to do any resizing, just rendered from Blender and framerate-adjusted. The text is a loaded .pfb font.

just two and important questions:

1 - can we post more than 1 animation?

2 - i wont be in my city from today till monday, and that' pretty weird cos i am the one that proposed the contest! can we take the deadline to monday? if not then i will have to post one the 2 unfinished movies i have right now :(

see ya,
el sup.

Well, here is mine.

http://mysite.reblended.com/bgdm/bgdm_logo.avi

Divx 5 Codec.
500 kb in size.
10 Sec. long.
Resolution is not as specified, but this is what I rendered it in, so this is what you get.

Just my nick flying down a corridor. Nothing special.

Where I'm from we don't question the contest, we try to compete in it. Level playing field- all the same resolution etcetera. (Here's where I get to say, "Damn kids" again)

I don't see anyone favouring anyone- so I guess this has been a jolly waste of time. My compliments to those who entered.

scottishpig i am here with my 80% complete scene, and i cant go on cos i cant use blender anymore... i posted on questions&answers about that... really sad, cos i was the one that proposed the contest, and my entry was (in my opinion) quite nice --

whenever i will be able to use blender again, i will send you my entry

adios,

flying through space at 2's the spead of light to another
star nebula, the spead drops as u come closer and then...

realy graphical it's cool and I like the effects I laid down,
I had to render it 3 times to get it just right and it took all day.

hanzo firts off great animation!!
second could you post in the forums or something on how you got the stars to move like that or if you used a particle system (which i think you did but i've been wrong before :D ), could you post somewhere the sttings used for the particle system? thanks a bunch and great anim again :)

i am making one, please dot close the contest today :D

Adrian I was going to try partical effect but I thought there would
be a way to do it with stars :x so I made realy dens space many (small)
stars close together then I put the camera range 2's as long and very far
away from the nebula(vertices with halo material)... when I animated the
camera rushing to the nebula I made the camera woble from side to side
at the same time looking in the direction of the nebula, last but not
least ;) I rendered the animation with a heavy motion blur to make the
stars blur past the camera animation and it took a long time for the
computer to render that..

Adrian
17-May-03, 13:26
ok you made a small dense space, but how did you make the stars?
did you model them as geometry, or did you actually end up using a particle system for the stars? i can make the nebula just find but the stars are giving me problems :x

hanzo
17-May-03, 14:11
stars are in the world menu under the mist, ;)..

Adrian
18-May-03, 03:55
ok this is what im trying to figure out:
if i use stars under world settings, does the stars each move independently like in your animation or do i just use it for a background and use a particle system for the ones that look like they are closer to the camera?
in your animation some of the stars that were "closer" to the camera could and would block out a star that was farther away frome the camera as it would in real life. some that were closer to the camera would appear to move faster than the ones that were farther away from the camera. does blender's stars under world buttons give this effect or do i have to use it for a background and use a particle system to achieve this effect?

hanzo
18-May-03, 17:44
ok man heres my settings for the stars... %|

Stars:
tardist 4.00 distance stars are from on another
indist 8.00 minimum distance from the camera
size 0.20 size of the stars
noise 0.15 random star color

camera: ;)
sight range 150.00

other than this there's the long rendering motion blur and some artistic camera animating,

Oo but thats it, hope this helps :Z

Adrian
19-May-03, 03:04
wow this does help i only thought the stars were a background but if you can animate them like that then YAY! :P
hehe that also explains why i can't seem to get them to reender when using a export script :x

Arg I was just getting off to a nice start when I realized that the font I was using was created using another piece of software. Just to be sure,...the text object is disqualified? Also,...does this disqualify all fonts as viable objects? Here is the object should there be a need to scrutinize it.=> http://home.att.net/~zolgnar/index.html/logo1x.JPG
