If a version of Blender was released that included a raytracer like Yafray integrated into the program then YES, it would absolutely be allowed. Otherwise, the only way to be fair is to allow Blender only.

That's better doing everything in and only in Blender .

Yes, I have all of the entries from 2002 AND 2001. It's fun to go back and look at them. I will repost them with a link in current F1 Challenge site when I get some time.

For those of you who are interested in seeing ALL of the past Blender F1 Challenge entries, the Challenge web site has now been updated with links to the previous contests. The old contests reflect a kind of "who's who" of Blender past and present. :)

The rules state that it must be created entirely in Blender. As long as you use Blender and it's built-in features, the version does not matter. I should probably clarify this in the official Rules. Thanks for bringing it up, @ndy.

oh and another [dumb] question: can we use plugins like glow and zblur in blender. i'm not sure since this is some kind of postprocessing effect, but still done in blender... the rules say: "no postprocessing allowed in any app" [and also blender?]
for now i'm kinda confused with that :-|
thanks for helpin' me.

NO don't use that! You can't! Because it will make your entry even better! So no one have a chance of winning...:p joking...but anyway don't work to much on it...let a chance to the other ;)

I consider post-processing to be modifying your image outside of Blender (like adding effects in Photoshop). PLug-ins have always been a part of Blender.

People seem to be working really hard for this year's contest. While I won't have time to enter something, I'll be very interested to see which entry comes out on top. Good luck to everyone.
